The 1989 Disney Film, The Little Mermaid, is a fan favorite and has grown in popularity in the past 30 years. On September 9th, 2022 the trailer for the newest Disney Live Action adaption was released, and brought in a wave on online conversations. There was a lot of controversy surrounding the trailer as people argued online about the casting for the movie. Conversations were mainly discussing Halle Bailey being cast as Ariel and would use opposing hashtags such as #NotMyAriel or #RepresentationMatters. In this analysis of the Multicultural Audience interacting with the Little Mermaid, the O.Y.E team chose to focus these conversations reacting to the trailer to gain insight on Black American and U.S. Hispanic conversations surrounding the casting decision. Methodology

For this report we utilized the O.Y.E. Social Listening Software to tune into consumer conversations and gain insights as to how multicultural consumers view The Live-Action Little Mermaid. This analysis was extrapolated from a data set of 89,740 conversations on Twitter, of which 5,320 were from verified U.S. Hispanics and 4,349 were from verified Black Americans. The conversations gathered for this report needed to mention the Little Mermaid Movies, as well as actors who are mentioned along side the movie. Conversations were collected in both English and Spanish to gain a better understanding of how the multicultural audience feel about the newest Little Mermaid trailer.
