PetSmart vs. Petco

A Social Listening Analysis

Project Description

It’s no secret that Americans love their pets! As of 2020, it was estimated that 67% of homes in the United States include at least one pet, making it a 99 billion dollar idustry. Whether Americans own dogs, cats, rodents, birds, or reptiles, the pet-supply industry steadily grows to suit the needs of owners and their animals.

PetSmart and Petco have remained the most steady competitors in the United States market for pet-supply stores. In this short study, we used O.Y.E Social Listening tool to analyze what different multicultural groups are saying about these brands and where they stand in the PetSmart vs Petco competiton.

Methodology

This analysis was extrapolated from a data set of 53,182 conversations on Twitter, of which 4,655 were from verified U.S. Hispanics and 2,811 were from verified Black Americans. All data was gathered from 11/24/2020 – 2/25/2021.
